Description

Vintage Brass Cup and Saucer and Spoon Tape Measure, 1 ¼ inches high, 1 ¾ inch diameter, marked “Germany” on the bottom of the saucer, probably early 1900’s, missing the tape, stains to the brass finish, a very rare design for an early tape measure, the cloth tape would have been inside the cup and accessed through the small slit in the side, the brass spoon which is bent to align with the contour of the inside of the cup acts as the winder, it is attached to a pin that the tape would be wound on and as the spoon is turned the tape would wind or unwind, there is a cotter pin through the bottom of the saucer that allows this action, the cup has tabs that attach it to the saucer, someone with the skill could probably reinsert a vintage tape, I am selling it “as is” but still a rare piece, it is listed as “Value 4 Index” in Arbittier and Morphy “Collecting Figural Tape Measures”, clever design, still a nice shelf piece.
