Antique Wooden Sliding Needle Stitcher/Hooked Rug Machine.
“This tool is used to make hand-hooked rugs. It is made of two separate pieces of wood and a needle with a hole in it attached to the front of the top part. The two pieces of wood are attached to one another with brass straps and slide in a slot allowing the top part to move forward and backward. When the opposite side enters the fabric a metal piece holds the thread in place while the needle draws the thread out, creating tufts. Also used as a hand stitching machine for leather, canvas and other heavy materials not accessible to a standard sewing machine. In good condition and works smoothly. Maker unknown.”
