    Description

Rare Antique Sterling Silver Abbotsford Tape Measure
    English * Circa 1840
The sides of this little antique silver tape measure are deeply embossed with a view of Abbotsford, the country home of Sir Walter Scott in the Scottish Borders. Evergreen trees go around to the back and the top and bottom have all over delicate circle patterns. The
little pagoda like top winds the tape back in (works well). It is English and tests solid sterling silver but is not marked.
English silversmiths didn't hallmark small items (and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s.
The silver is in excellent condition with no dents or other damage and it measures
slightly over 1 1/4" high and 1/2" in diameter
. The red silk ribbon tape is original and a pretty one with a leafy border. It starts at 3".
I stand behind everything that I offer and

that it is exactly as presented.
