This Sketch Pencil/Pen is made from
a beautiful piece of AMBOYNA BURL which is one of the rarest woods in the world, AMBOYNA BURL, and is primarily grown in Borneo.
A "burl" is an abnormal growth that typically grow on the outside of the tree and usually near the tree trunk. Since each "eye" of the burl could have grown into a tree branch, this causes the grain to grow in every direction at the same time. A burl typically also has bark inclusions, voids, as well as other things making it difficult to turn. A burl also does not form on most trees so they are all very rare yet contain the most desired wood and is worth all the extra effort to turn, as you can see. I am now using the Super Glue (CA Glue) finish for all my pens. This type of finish is extremely durable and will help keep your pen safe from water, oil and the rigors of daily use. It takes a little longer to use this finishing method and costs a little more as well. However, the finish you have when completed, is very similar to an acrylic, and will last the life of the pen with no problems. The item can be either a pen or pencil and can be changed from one to the other whenever you desire.
