    Description

    Early Antique English Steel Scissors
    by J Rodgers & Sons * Circa 1820
The shape of these steel scissors indicates an age of c. 1800-20, two hundred years old. The steel shanks are
engraved with flowers and leaves, a mark of high quality
. The blades are marked J Rodgers & Sons.*
They were probably the best known of the Sheffield cutlers and this is the earliest pair of theirs that I've seen.
The blades are a little loose but have intact points and t
    hey cut well. T
he steel has discoloration but the condition is otherwise nice with no rust. They measure slightly over 4 1/2" long.
*The business was founded in 1682 as penknife cutlers. In 1764 Rogers received their trademark, a Maltese cross and star. They became J Rodgers & Sons in 1800 and started making scissors. They had the Royal Warrants from several monarchs over all these years.
