For sale is an ANTIQUE WOODEN ROSS PATENT 1881 CARPET NEEDLE, SEWING TOOL
Appears to be in working condition although having no instruction in how to use it I can't be positive.

"This is an 1881 Ross patent carpet needle. This device is marked- ROSS PAT. 12/27/1881. It is made out of wood, steel and brass. It has a sharp-pointed brass needle part. There are two sliding wooden handle parts that have a curved shape to them. One of the handles is impress-stamped with "ROSS PAT. / DED. 27, 1881". The hardware allows the operator to extend and retract the needle by using both hands to hold the handle parts and then pushing each side alternately. There is an eyed screw for guiding the yarn."
