Antique Victorian Needle Guards Figural Deer Sewing Knitting Needlework
Item Description:
This little pair of mid-Victorian period needle guards are in the form of miniature deer hooves, and have fur and little black hooves. These were used to protect the points of knitting needles when not in use. Originally the green elasticized ribbon would have stretched to the length of the knitting needles, and the tension would keep the guards on. Now there's just a remnant of the ribbon on each piece. If you did want to use these, you could find probably replace it with early elasticized ribbon; they're held on with stitching through two holes in each guard. These Victorian needleguards are hard to find, and a great addition to your sewing / needlework collection.
Condition:
Very good antique condition; there is some minor wear to the fur covering on one guard, and the ribbon between them is just two remnants, as discussed above. (see photos).
Size:
Each guard is approx. 1 5/8".
