Description
"Antique Miniature Oil Can"I am offering a miniature oil can. What research I have done indicates this was a product of the 1800's. I have seen many explanations for its use--sewing machines, guns or fishing reels. Some of the research indicates this might have been patented between 1895-1897. However, there are no markings on this piece at all. I believe this piece to be in working order. The lidded piece opens two different ways. One way exposes the small needle like dropper/stopper and the other way a small spout. The needle like piece fits inside the spout. A bit tricky to unscrew. There is still remnants of oil on the upper portion where it screws. It has definitely been used. The finish is worn and there is some scratching. At first I thought there were a couple of small dents on the lid, but upon looking closer, I believe that's the way it was manufactured. I don't know what kind of material it is, but I don't see rust, just finish wear. It measures approximately 3 1/2 inches in height and 1 inch in width at the widest point. The sides squeeze in to release the oil. Quite a unique little oil can.
Thanks for looking and have a
great
day!
