    Description

Antique 18 Kt Gold Embroidery Scissors w/ Sheath
    Dutch * Circa 1860s
These little scissors are solid 18 kt gold and have a matching gold sheath (tested and guaranteed).
The shanks are hand engraved on both sides with ornate scrolling designs.
They are stamped with the Dutch lion's head hallmark used from 1814-1905 for 18 Kt gold.  There is also a maker's mark, I believe for H. Schetters Sr. He worked as a goldsmith in Maastricht from 1848-1874.
The condition is excellent with no dents or splits. The steel blades are tight with needle sharp points and they cut very well. The scissors measure 3 3/8" long and are almost 3 1/2" long in the sheath. They weigh 12.3 grams.
Gold scissors in this style are shown in sets on p. 20 (Plate 20) and p. 21 (Plate 23a) of Kay Sullivan's book
Needlework Tools and Accessories - A Dutch Tradition.
